Today children live
in a society where dread is at the tip of the nose. Crimes against
children are at a rapid speed such as rape, molestation, kidnapping,
harassment and murder are the most common forms of crime against
children in India. But, what we as the responsible citizens of an
independent country fail to realize is that instances of nuisance
can flare up into other bigger heinous crimes against children.
Under the tagline ‘Swaraksha for Women’ “Child protection and
community awareness drive on digital safety” a workshop was held at
St. Therese High School, Belthangady. The workshop was organized by
Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra - Vimukti, Belthangady a leading NGO in
Belthangady working especially for child protection. ‘Swaraksha for
Women’ is a simple and effective two hour self-defense training
especially for children and women, which Mr Karthik S Kateel had
conducted with the help of his mother Mrs Shobalatha. Mr Karthik
started the session asking questions with the students that did they
feel frightened or intimidated when out walking alone. To protect
ourselves from such situations Martial Arts Guru Karthik
demonstrated techniques formulated by him for the public safety.
Hundreds of children and teachers took part with great enthusiasm
and learnt a number of self defense techniques demonstrated by
Karthik S Kateel. Sr Leena the Headmistress of the High School
welcomed the gathering and introduced Karthik to the students. On
the dais were Karthik’s mother, Principal of St Therese Composite PU
College, – Sr Arogya and Fr. Rohan Lobo asst. Director of Vimukti
were present.
Sr. Philomena anchored and Sr. Arogya proposed the vote of thanks.
