Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts
1. Who we are ....jpg)
Asha Kiran Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts provides
composite/ integrated services for the rehabilitation of the
substance dependents persons. It envisages total recovery of the
addicted person leading to one’s socio economic rehabilitation
through the combination of individual counseling and family
counseling. The Centre aims at enabling the addict to achieve total
abstinence from substances of abuse and improve the quality of life.
Asha Kiran Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts as a unit of
Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra Society ® set its foot at Bhadravathi
on 29th May 1999. Having had a social survey among Catholics in the
districts of Shimoga, Davangere and Chitradurga, it was discovered
that 60% of the people's poverty was due to addiction to alcohol and
other substance abuse. Hence the Centre Asha Kiran which was
functioning in Bangalore (Kengeri) was shifted to Bhadravathi in
1999 with its humble beginning in a rented building at Jedikatte,
Bhadravathi. Its own building was inaugurated on 14th November 2001
at Jedikatte. Ever since, its activities have grown by leaps and
bounds.
Approach and Achievements…
-
The centre is
easily accessible to the public as it is located beside
Bangalore – Honavar National Highway. It has a serene and calm
atmosphere as it is situated amidst lush green nature.
-
The
Centre, in the last two decades has functioned with the
facilities of treatment and rehabilitation without a break.
Even, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the centre functioned with
all necessary precautions. When it was impossible to treat the
addicts physically due to infection they were treated through
OPD. Counseling was done over the phone.
-
Around 5,500
persons have been treated in the Centre so far as in-patients.
Apart from this, several thousands have benefited from this
Centre by way of out-patients and Awareness Programs.
-
Having a qualified
and well-experienced Psychiatrist in the staff is one of the
rarest facilities and most effective element of treatment and
rehabilitation of this centre.
-
The services of
this Centre are not limited to the locality or district.
Hundreds of addicts from the neighboring districts and at times,
from the neighboring states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa,
Maharashtra, etc. are making use of the facilities of this
centre.
-
Individual
attention is given to the patients and follow up has been done
once they return to their families. Periodic reunions along with
other recovered patients in the Centre inspire them to remain
sober and healthy for long.
-
Not only the
addict, but his/her whole family is taken care of with
counseling, teaching and instruction. The family support given
by the Centre through periodic reunions is a great help for both
the patient and the family.
-
In the last twenty
years, hundreds of Awareness programs have been conducted in
various villages all over Karnataka and a few programs outside
the state too. Awareness on the hazards of Alcoholism and
Substance abuse has been imparted to College Students and School
Children. Various vulnerable groups too have been given the
awareness of drug abuse and alcoholism.
-
The Centre conducts
Orientation Program, Field Visit Program and Internship program
for BSW and MSW students, Nursing students and Clinical
Psychology, Counseling and Psychotherapy and Medical students of
various colleges.
-

order to amplify the service, students from Kuvempu University,
Bhadravathi and Sahyadri College, Shimoga have been given
opportunity to render service in the Centre and get the
knowledge and experience of treating the patients.
-
As ‘Sickness has no
religion’, till date, this Centre has served everyone without
distinction of caste, creed, race and religion. All those who
have frequented the Centre have experienced peace, harmony and
serenity in the Centre.
-
The Centre without
fail celebrates national festivals like Independence Day,
Republic Day, etc. Important days like Day against Drug Abuse
and Illicit Trafficking, Yoga Day, Mental Health Day, etc are
celebrated with appropriate activities.

facilities of the Centre. District Judges, Lions Members, Rotary
Members visit the Centre and encourage the service. A few
Inspection teams have named the centre as a Model for all the
Centers.
-

programs have been conducted in collaboration with Taluk and
District Legal Cells.
-
The Centre has been
awarded with Spandana Award for the year 2010-2011by Indian
