On June 27, 2024, at
Asha Kiran Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts, a unit of
Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra® observed the International Day against
Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was attended by
several notable guests, including Ms. Shashirekha(District Disabled
Welfare Officer), Fr. Arun Lobo, Governing Body Member of Capuchin
Krishik Seva Kendra®Mr.Kumaraswamy S.S. Professor of the Department
of Social Work, Sahyadri Arts College Shimoga, Dr. Harisha
Delanthabettu, H.O.D. of Psychiatry, Subbaiah Institute of Medical
Sciences, Shimoga, Mr. Sunil Kalloora(Excise Area Inspector), and
various police officers. Additionally, students from Kuvempu
University (MSW) and Sahyadri Arts College (BSW), along with
AshaKiran staff and inmates participated in the event.
The day began with a peace procession aimed at raising awareness
about drug abuse. Participants carried placards with messages
promoting the cause. The procession started at 9:45 AM and
highlighted the community's commitment to combating drug abuse.
Following the procession, a stage program commenced. Dr.Harish
Dalenthbettu delivered an impactful message on the significance of
the day, discussing the effects of drug abuse and the legal
consequences associated with it. Ms. Shashirekha followed with a
motivational speech on avoiding harmful substances and striving for
a substance-free Shimoga. The chief guest, Fr. Arun Lobo, gave his
presidential address, emphasizing the importance of community
efforts in tackling these issues. The event also featured cultural
performances by students from both colleges and AshaKiran inmates,
which added a vibrant and engaging element to the program.
The event concluded with a communal lunch. Overall, it was a
successful awareness program that effectively conveyed the message
of fighting against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
