 IMPACT OF ADVOCACY WITH DISTRICT LEVEL ADMINISTRATION

Background of the Issue: Child Club and youth club meetings are conducted regularly in Gangavathi, the sponsorship project area, to discuss crucial issues which affect children's education. The issue that was placed before the children's club was bus transportation in Kardigudda village in Gangavathi block. Children were deprived of their education for not having proper conveyance.

Lobbying: The villagers approached the bus depot many times to start the bus facility for school-going children. But they did not take it seriously. The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted a hearing program at district level and at regional level. These village children participated and strongly highlighted the issue in the program. As a result, the issue was discussed at the regional level and the commission President directly called and discussed the issue with the District Commissioner. The District Commissioner directed the District Depot Manager of KSRTC to regard the issue. Result: The Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) official personnel agreed to start a two-time bus to Kardigudda village every day for the convenience of school-going children. Now the children go to school regularly. Children are empowered and take independent stands to speak about their issues and safety needs in the children's club, schools, Gram Panchayat and public places without the help of the project.
